World Toilet Day

19th November is celebrated every year as “World Toilet Day” globally, to inspire action and to tackle the global sanitation crisis. This observance, held annually since 2013, celebrates toilets and raises awareness of the 3.6 billion people living without access to safely managed sanitation. It is about taking action to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6: sanitation and water for all by 2030. It is a platform to engage in a dialogue with various stakeholders and to deliberate upon probable solutions to various challenges with access to safe WASH facilities for all. Various programs are organised at national and international level to create awareness amongst beneficiaries about the importance of toilets and improve the habits associated with it.

Maharashtra Urban WASH-ES Coalition through it’s Secretariat, partners organisation and government institutions organises diverse initiatives in Maharashtra, to raise awareness and promote behavioural change amongst beneficiaries, to encourage safe access to Community and Public toilets and to create a platform for ideation on ‘ Strengthening Community and Public Sanitation in Maharashtra’ by engaging various sector specialists in Maharashtra.
