World Water Day was initiated on 22nd March 1993 to celebrate water and raise awareness on access to safe drinking water and to tackle the global water crisis. As water is a basic necessity to sustain life on earth, the World Water Day is celebrated to advocate sustainable management of freshwater resources with a focus to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
With variable distribution of rainfall and freshwater resources in the state of Maharashtra, equitable access to safe water resources is a challenge in many small ULBs and urban poor settlements. The Maharashtra Urban WASH- ES Coalition with a vision to ensure equitable and sustainable use and reuse of available water resources, partners with government departments, ULBs, educational institutions, partner organisations and community stakeholders in awareness activities focused on water conservation, rainwater harvesting and recycling of used water.
